Mykonos

I was able to get a few hours sleep before getting up at 3:15am for my early morning flight on Ryanair.  It was an easy 15 minute walk to the bus stop to catch the bus to the airport.  The bus was already full when I got on, so I had to stand for the 35 minute ride.  The 6:40 am flight left on time and arrived a little early.  The hotel picked me up at the airport & stored my bags for me until check in at 12:30.

Goodbye Athens

Hello Mykonos

When I arrived in Mykonos it was extremely windy, so I was glad that I was wearing a light jacket.  It worked out well that I was able to walk around the town before the crowds from the cruise ships docked nearby invaded the town.  It felt as though I was walking in a maze in town because there are no signs indicating which direction to the water or to leave town.

I took quite a few photos of the town and eventually made my way back to the hotel to check in.  The hotel only had 9 rooms and was located on a hillside just a few minutes outside of town.  It had a great view of the city and the waterfront from the terrace in front of the rooms.  I definitely needed a rest after getting up so early in the morning.  A little later in the day, I headed out for dinner & found a nice small family restaurant that served Greek food.  Dinner was good, but there are definitely no more $5 or less dinners for the rest of this trip.

I was able to get a few photos of the windmills near the waterfront at night, but it was somewhat difficult as there were so many people walking in that area.

The following day, I thought about going to a beach on another part of the island, but opted just to stay in town & take it easy.  The wind was much calmer on my second day in Mykonos & the temperature was in the low 80s, so it was a nice day for sightseeing.  There were definitely quite a few Americans in town with 4 cruise ships docked in the harbor.  After eating Greek food for a week, I decided that I wanted pizza for dinner instead.  The meal that I had was good, but too expensive (over $20). After dinner, I found a nice spot on an overlook to shot some photos of the town at night.  I was able to get some excellent shots from there.  Overall, my visit to Mykonos was nice & relaxing.  My next stop is a short 45 minute catamaran ride to the island of Paros, where I will spend 3 nights.
