Flying Home

Even though I enjoyed my 2 month long trip, I was definitely ready to come back home and be in one place for awhile.  I managed to get about 5 hours of sleep before I had to pack up my things to catch the hotel shuttle to the airport.  I was through the airline check-in, immigration, and security in just 25 minutes, so I had 1.5 hours to kill before they started boarding my 11 hour flight from Athens to Philadelphia.

I had an aisle seat on the 2 seat section of the plane, so it was somewhat comfortable for the long flight.  However, there seems to be a requirement that at least one crying baby has to be on these long flights and that the person in front of you must see how far back they can recline their seat even if they are only 5 feet tall!!

The food was decent on the flight and I managed to watch 3 movies that were all pretty good.  The flight arrived on time and eventually I cleared immigration and security to wait for my 2 hour flight to Charleston.  The flight to Charleston left late, but arrived just about on time.  My friend Steve was nice enough to pick me up at the airport & look after my place while I was away. Thanks Steve.

Overall even though the weather early in my trip wasn't the best and I had a few mishaps along the way, I still really enjoyed my trip & had a lot of great experiences during the last 2 months.  Almost everyone that finds out that I have been traveling for 2 months asks me "what was your favorite place that you visited"?  There were so many interesting places I visited and nice people that I met on my trip that I really can't say that any one place was the best.  There were a number of cities that I wish I had spent another day or two in.

Here are a few stats from my trip:

Days traveled - 60

Cities visited (with overnight stays) - 19

Countries visited - 10 (6 new ones)

Overall countries visited - 37

Number of airplane flights - 13

Number of long distance bus trips - 6

Number of ferry trips - 3

Number of train trips - 2

Number of subway, trams, local bus rides - 100s

Number of photos taken - about 4,000
